Clamoroso al Cibali: Miyamoto va in pensione (o forse no)

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — The creator of Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda will step down from his current position at Nintendo but remain with the company to work on smaller, more personal projects, Wired.com has learned.

In an exclusive interview with Wired.com on Wednesday, the 59-year-old head of Nintendo’s game design department said that he will move away from supervising the development of massive games like this year’s Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Super Mario 3D Land, passing the torch to the younger designers in the company and working on projects that won’t take as long to complete.

“Inside our office, I’ve been recently declaring, ‘I’m going to retire, I’m going to retire,’” Miyamoto said through his interpreter. “I’m not saying that I’m going to retire from game development altogether. What I mean by retiring is, retiring from my current position.”

“What I really want to do is be in the forefront of game development once again myself,” Miyamoto said. “Probably working on a smaller project with even younger developers. Or I might be interested in making something that I can make myself, by myself. Something really small.”

Miyamoto said that he’s hoping to start work on a project in 2012, and hopefully show the game off publicly within the year.

“In other words, I’m not intending to start from things that require a five-year development time,” he said.

(Reuters) - Nintendo Co Ltd on Thursday denied a report that Shigeru Miyamoto, widely seen as the world's most influential games designer, would step down from his current position and take a smaller role in the company.

Wired magazine had quoted the 59-year-old creator of popular games franchises including Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda as saying in an interview that he wanted to retire and work on smaller projects, passing the torch to younger designers.

"This is absolutely not true," said a spokeswoman for Nintendo. "There seems to have been a misunderstanding. He has said all along that he wants to train the younger generation.

"He has no intention of stepping down. Please do not be concerned."

Credo non tarderà il momento, comunque. Ce lo siamo goduto per tanto temo, ha fatto e dato tanto, ma non è eterno. Il fatto stesso che rimanga lo stesso occupandosi di progetti minori è un piacere, grazie per una volta alla gen che gli permette di poterlo fare bene.

Beh per quanto mi riguarda devo dire che sono sereno, nel senso che ho l'impressione che in azienda sia già iniziato da tempo una sorta di passaggio di consegne, che a giudicare dai risultati definirei decisamente incoraggiante.

Finchè determinati "valori" (ludici) rimarranno un punto fermo dei prodotti Nintendo ritengo che lo... spirito Miyamotiano aleggerà sempre nei giochi della Grande N.

Beh per quanto mi riguarda devo dire che sono sereno, nel senso che ho l'impressione che in azienda sia già iniziato da tempo una sorta di passaggio di consegne, che a giudicare dai risultati definirei decisamente incoraggiante.

Parole che andrebbero scolpite sulla roccia. 

Neanche io sono preoccupato più di tanto, il Miya ci ha dato tanto e ora è anche giusto che lasci la strada (ben segnata da lui stesso) alle nuove leve, dopotutto ha quasi 60 anni... Speriamo rimanga davvero nell'ambiete, perché la sua figura rimane sempre importante.

Sono convinto che i designer di questo calibro nel loro intimo non vorrebbero mai smettere di stare a contatto coi videogiochi, immagino sia una sorta di simbiosi inscindibile.

Secondo me finchè vorrà e potrà, in un modo o nell'altro, uno zampino ce lo metterà sempre. O almeno spero.
