Online retailer Play.com is to shut down its retail business becoming a marketplace only from March 2013.
The Jersey based company blamed the move on the ending of Low Value Consignment Relief allowing items less than £15 to be sold to the UK VAT free.
The company is making 147 staff redundant in Jersey as well as 67 in its Cambridge and Bristol offices.
Play.com will be more like a shopping centre with the move, no longer selling directly to the customers themselves.
The Low Value Consignment Relief (LVCR) loophole was shut by the UK government in April 2012.
In a statement Play.com said: "Moving forward we are intending to focus exclusively on our successful marketplace, which is our main business area, and to phase out the direct retail part of our business."
In September the States of Jersey said about 400 people had lost their jobs elsewhere in the island because of the end of LVCR.

Che poi non chiude proprio al 100%, ma per noi cambia poco: sostanzialmente diventa un "contenitore" per venditori terzi. :|

Peccato, facendo quattro calcoli ci ho fatto acquisti per circa 10 anni senza praticamente mai avere problemi.
Il problema è che diventa un "ponte" fra te ed altri venditori. Francamente io preferisco affidarmi a chi mi vende le cose in prima persona, non terziariamente.
Anche quando Amazon mi dice "venduto da", io passo.
Specie per siti UK, che se succede un problema con le spedizioni poi è un casino, preferisco dover parlare con una società di una certa importanza rispetto che ad un venditore che trova visibilità su questo tipo di siti.
Zavvi, almeno tu, resisti.

Vado solo, al più, sui "fullfilled by Amazon", dato che alla fine è di fatto equivalente a comprare direttamente da loro.
Mai acquistato da terzi, tranne un paio di volte sul marketplace ITA, e solo previa verifica di millemila feedback positivi. XD
purtroppo (per loro) le isole dove avevano sede hanno smesso di essere di fatto detassate sull'iva e quindi non sono più competitivi rispetto a colossi come amazon...
Il vero problema credo sia il motivo per cui stia "chiudendo".

L'articolo dice che il provvedimento risale ad aprile 2012, però Play.com ci sta mettendo sostanzialmente un anno a patirne l'effetto, a quanto pare.
C'è da vedere se e quanto questa cosa ha creato rogne anche ad altri: personalmente non ho la più pallida idea di quanto possano essere importanti, a confronto, i vari Zavvi & Co.
