Microsoft has said it would consider creating a Blu-ray player add-on for Xbox 360, and that it isn't all that bothered by Warner Bros' decision to go with Blu-ray instead of HD-DVD.
"I fundamentally don't think...this has a significant impact on Xbox 360 versus PlayStation 3," Xbox hardware group marketing manager Albert Penello told Reuters. "With the PlayStation 2, DVD was a big part in the beginning, but over time, people were not buying it as a DVD player after [the] first year or two."
Unlike the PlayStation 3, which has a Blu-ray drive built-in to the console, the HD-DVD player is a stand-alone accessory for the Xbox 360. Nothing would prevent Microsoft from creating an add-on Blu-ray player if they thought it worth the effort.
"It should be consumer choice, and if that's the way they vote, that's something we'll have to consider," said Penello.
While disappointed by Warner's decision, he thinks Hollywood isn't listening to consumers. "I want consumers to have a voice in this and I think there are a lot of consumers who bought HD-DVD who are going to have a say in how this shakes out," he added.
My say is that most Blu-ray and HD-DVD films appear to be absolute rubbish - when are they going to stop bickering and try and sort that out?

Personalmente continuo a vederla come guerra dei poveri: il DVD non andrà in pensione tanto presto IMHO.
C'è di buono che il 360 in questo è molto flessibile dal momento che il lettore ad alta definizione è esterno.
Quindi chi possiede la console Microsoft e non ha fatto alcuna "scelta di campo" perchè voleva prendere tempo nell'attesa che si definisse l'ormai scontata vittoria del BR, qualora domani uscisse questo dispositivo potrebbe tranquillamente godersi i contenuti del format standard HD de facto.
Concordo con turry, per ora nessun formato si è imposto di prepotenza. Ma un lettore di BR esterno non costerà un botto?

Non mi serve, ho già un lettore BR, non avendo fatto alcuna scelta di campo (nei film come nei vg) ma piuttosto essendomi garantito la possibilità tanto di vedere i film nel formato migliore (HDDVD) quanto di non perdermi alcuna esclusiva, con Ps3.
