After the Family Computer (NES) was first sold in Japan, over 20 years ago. At the time, the various other platforms were developed, and with each console lots of games were created. Wii reproduces these games on its hardware via the included Virtual Console.

The Family Computer (NES), Super Family Computer (SNES), Nintendo 64, PC engine (TurboGrafx 16), Mega Drive (Sega Genesis), all work on the Virtual Console. The 1983's MSX was another platform, previously unannounced for backwards compatibility with the Virtual Console, that will get games on the Wii!

While this is only announced in Japan and MSX info online is scarce, it's interesting to know the Metal Gear and Castlevania series were originally written for the MSX. Let's hope MSX games will also be available for download outside Japan.
