Sony vets get added responsibilities as game group comes in for changes.

TOKYO--Sony Computer Entertainment this week announced a number of sweeping changes effective July 1. The company has established a number of new departments and divisions, and it's also made some significant promotions.

Changes to SCE's infrastructure include the creation of Sony Computer Entertainment Asia, to be managed by Tetsuhiko Yasuda, current managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong. In his new additional role, Yasuda is charged with SCE's pan-Asia operations. He assumes an additional title of corporate executive. Also, SCE said it would establish a new production entity to oversee all first-party games: SCEJ Studio (Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio).

Two individuals coming in for noteworthy title changes are Phil Harrison and Kazunori Yamauchi.

Harrison, based in London, currently holds the title of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe executive president. Effective July 1, he will add the title SCE chief executive producer and will oversee SCE game development worldwide.

Polyphony Digital president and Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has been promoted to an executive of SCE, and he's been given a new title: corporate executive in charge of Polyphony Digital.

And finally, Sony Computer Entertainment chief technology officer Masayuki Chatani has been appointed deputy chief for the newly established Computer Development Division in the Computer Business Group. He will also add the title chief of the Computer Business Group's Architecture Research Division. Chatani will continue to hold the titles corporate executive and chief technology officer of SCE.
